Nice to Meet You

I’m Dr. Kristin Ross.

I founded Resilient Roots with the belief that complex issues need comprehensive care.

When you’re struggling with something like an acute medical diagnosis, new parenthood, or infertility you might feel like what you’re getting from your healthcare providers just barely skims the surface. And unfortunately, in our healthcare system, insurance often dictates how care is provided.

When you are dealing with issues like these, it impacts every single part of your life and the lives of those around you.

Why Resilient Roots?

I use the word “resilient” because as a fellow member of the human race, I know that sometimes we get dealt a shitty card (even though we want nothing more than to be in control of the deck).

What I hope to do in my work is help you thrive anyway.

To feel worthy, valuable, and lovable no matter what (and no matter what society may tell you).

I chose the word “roots” because to become truly resilient, we need to reach deep and change from the bottom up. It’s not an easy thing to do, and it can’t be done alone-you’ll need community and connection. And that’s why we’re here.

A little bit about me professionally

I have a doctorate in Medical Family Therapy and I’m a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Supervisor in Texas. I am also licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in Missouri and Hawaii and offer online therapy in both states.

I am a trauma-informed and trauma-trained therapist, and use a client-centered, emotionally focused, and relational approach to therapy.

  • I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Supervisor in the state of Texas. I am also a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Missouri and Hawaii where I offer telehealth therapy for clients residing there. I received my master's degree in Family Therapy from Texas Woman’s University. I have a Ph.D. in Medical Family Therapy from Saint Louis University.

  • I completed my doctoral internship in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

  • I am a Clinical Fellow with the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. I am trained in both EMDR and Child Centered Play Therapy. I am an AAMFT Approved Supervisor when I am not in the therapy room I can be found doing supervision or teaching.

As a medical family therapist I know that sexual health and functioning is an important and underserved area of health. Especially for those struggling with infertility, new parents, and those with busy young families. I am currently working towards continued education that will allow me to become a better sex therapist.

And a little bit about me personally

After spending years in the area for school, I developed a deep connection to the DFW and set down roots with my husband, our crazy beagle and two cats. I am new to motherhood and have a beautiful two year old son.

As a woman who has experienced infertility and IVF, my practice of medical family therapy has become focused in this area. I have a special place in my heart for postpartum mamas and those couples and families that have experienced infertility and/or infertility treatments.

I am committed to helping my clients build resilience, cultivate stronger connections and to advocate for their physical, mental, and spiritual health.
