EMDR & Trauma Informed Therapy in Garland, Texas.
Healing beyond talk therapy. Helping you process trauma for lasting change.
When you’ve been through trauma, even though you may tell yourself “it’s in the past”, it’s as if your brain and body are still stuck there.
Maybe certain situations trigger intense anxiety out of the blue. Or you find yourself shutting down and zoning out when things get overwhelming. You might ask yourself, “Why can’t I just move on?”

The truth is, trauma isn’t just a “bad memory”—it’s an experience stored in your body. That’s why traditional talk therapy alone isn’t always enough.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and trauma-informed therapy offer you a different approach—one that helps your brain and body truly process and release what happened, so you can move forward with more ease and resilience.
What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR is a research-backed therapy designed to help people recover from distressing experiences, trauma, PTSD, and anxiety. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR doesn’t require you to retell every painful detail of your past. Instead, it uses something called bilateral stimulation (it sounds stranger than it is, we promise-it usually includes guided eye movements, tapping, or sounds) to help your brain reprocess traumatic memories in a way that feels less overwhelming than talk therapy.

“Is EMDR right for me?”
You experience flashbacks, nightmares, or intrusive thoughts related to a past event.
Certain sounds, places, or situations trigger intense emotional or physical reactions.
You feel numb, disconnected, or avoidant when trying to recall painful memories.
You’ve tried traditional therapy but still feel stuck in old patterns of fear, anxiety, or self-doubt.
Your body reacts to stress with tension, panic, or shutdown, even when you logically know you’re safe.
Still not sure if it’s right for you? We offer a free phone consultation to ask questions and see if we are a good fit for you.
What is “Trauma-Informed Therapy” (and how can it help you)?
Not all trauma looks the same, and not all healing journeys do either. At Resilient Roots, our trauma-informed approach means:
Your pace, your process. We create a safe, supportive space where you never have to share more than you’re comfortable with.
Understanding how trauma lives in your own body. We use evidence-based methods to help you identify and regulate emotions and reconnect with yourself.
Rewriting your own story. Trauma often leads to deep-seated negative thoughts (I’m not safe, I’m not enough, I can’t trust anyone). Working together, we help you shift into more helpful, hopeful, and empowering beliefs.
What to Expect in EMDR Therapy Sessions
Getting to Know You. We explore what’s bringing you in, your history, and whether EMDR is a good fit.
Building Safety & Resilience. Before we begin reprocessing trauma, we teach you grounding techniques so you feel supported throughout the process.
Reprocessing Traumatic Memories. Using bilateral stimulation, we guide you in revisiting distressing memories without becoming overwhelmed.

Looking for a therapist that gets it?
Dr. Kristin Ross here. As an army brat, I grew up in several military towns. Not only did my father serve but I married into another military family.
I get what it’s like to have your family spread out all across the country and world. Having to create your chosen family. Not being able to see your family of origin at holidays. Both my parents have also spent decades in law enforcement.
Not only do I have lived experience as a military family member I also worked for several years serving veterans and first responders as a therapist. You won’t have to explain terminology to me–we share a language. And you don’t have to share all the details of a critical incident with me. If you want to, I'm here, but I never push. We’ll make sure you make progress without pushing your limits.
